PACKING UP

Quartzsite, AZ
Well, it's our last day here at KofA Wildlife Refuge. The weather is comfortably warm, but today the wind whipped up in a frenzy - dirt devils, chairs toppled, flip flops blowing away, the whole deal. So, for fun, and to celebrate our last day near Quartzsite, we drove into town and got some ice cream. We popped in at Dorothy & Toto's Ice Cream Shoppe & Kettle Corn & Leather (!?!) - the Leather part didn't make it into the photo, but it was just to the right of the Ice Cream sign. I get that it's all from cows, but...

And I'm still trying to figure out the connection between the Wizard of Oz and Ice Cream, but the Pistachio Nut single scoop on a waffle cone I ordered was plenty tasty, and the service was very friendly! Darell ordered a banana split with chocolate, strawberry, and mint chip ice cream:
Altogether a lovely finish to our stay here. Right now, I'm sitting in the jeep typing this (it's too windy to sit outside) while Darell does a little vacuuming inside the Chinook (we like to clean things up a bit before we move on). We'll try to pack up tonight, and leave tomorrow morning after coffee. Nothing happens before coffee. It looks as if we're heading back down to Ajo, AZ and/or Organ Pipe Cactus Nat'l. Monument for a time, and maybe then on to Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. We'll see. The internet connection is not so grand down Ajo way, so stayed tuned...
