AJO MOUNTAIN SCENIC DRIVE - MOUNTAINS AND VISTAS

The mountains here are majestic and diverse. New and different ranges appear constantly throughout the drive, in an almost overwhelming array of rocky cliffs, stratified geological masterpieces, and rolling, cactus-covered mounds. We did the drive in the middle of the day (it took us about 3 hours, because we stopped so frequently to take pictures) and the sun was at its brightest.
Arch Canyon, if you look closely, you can see a teeny arch above the larger one at top left

Prickly Pear Cactus at the base of another Arch Canyon mountain
Visible strata and some neat Saguaro cacti
A forest of Saguaros at the base of some wonderful peaks
Distant mountains and diverse cacti and shrubs
Mount Tillotson, the second highest peak in the Monument

Interesting formations
The next photos are from a point above a huge wash, where indigenous peoples grew beans and squash when heavy rainfall drenched the ground as it flowed through to the desert bottom. The mountains furthest away are in Mexico - we're about 5 miles from the Mexican border, and there is a Mexican Biosphere Preserve (the sister park to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument) just over the border.
