PIZZA! AND, ENOUGH WITH THE MIRACLES, ALREADY

Last night, under the influence of the burgeoning fiery desert sunset and a lovely glass (or two) of Moscato, the idea of getting a pizza was floated. In a rare foray into spontaneity, we did just that. We drove 35 miles, through a border patrol checkpoint, to the nice little town of Ajo, where a Pizza Hut awaited. We grabbed two pizzas (one for each of us) and headed back home, where we ate as many slices as we wanted and watched a movie from the 1930's with Joan Bennett and Frederic March. Life is good.

Today, on the other hand, a spontaneous outing with the cat didn't go quite as well. The instant we take Scout outside, he rolls in the dirt, or gravel, or sand. It must feel good. Today he chose to roll near a Cholla cactus, and picked up a few (what I now call) pain spheres. In an effort to remove them, I also became a pin cushion. I called for Darell and he came with the pliers, pulling first the spines from my hands, and then (while I held Scout) pulling the poky balls of spines from Scout's head, stomach, and leg, to the strains of cat yowling. I'm guessing Scout won't want to go outside for awhile. No photos today, as the pizza is gone, and the cat is hiding!
