ROCKHOUND STATE PARK, NEW MEXICO

We blew (literally) into Rockhound State Park today. We learned from the Visitors Center that the Chihuahuan Desert is always windy in March and April - I think we were pretty much suspecting that was the case! Rockhound is one of the few state parks where visitors are allowed to take rocks that they find (up to 15 lbs. of 'em!) away with them (unfortunately, we don't have room for 15 lbs. of anything!). The campground is very tidy, with a decidedly southwest theme (adobe restrooms, etc.), and quite busy. We are staying on the side with no water/electricity - most of those sites were taken when we arrived. We bought a New Mexico Annual Camping Pass that gives you $10 off campsites, and free day use at any state site. The H2O/electric sites are normally $14 (so that is $4, with the pass) and the no hook-ups sites are normally $10 (so that is FREE, with the pass) - you can't beat that with a stick!
