SILVER CITY, NEW MEXICO

We did the "tourist thing" (or as much as we do that, anyway) and went to Silver City, New Mexico. It is an old mining town with a historic district that hosts many art galleries, shops, restaurants, and so forth. Mostly we went there to visit a yarn shop I learned about on Ravelry, and to eat lunch, as we were as hungry as tigers by the time we got there. The restaurant where we planned on eating had been replaced by another restaurant that was also closed down. We ended up at a small diner-type restaurant that served hamburgers and mexican food. The waitress had long pink fingernails and we had cheese enchiladas. I had expected the town to be a bit more upscale (based on the CoC information and NM glossy magazines), but it was very nice architecturally, and the shops and art galleries seemed bright and nice and looking altogether wholeheartedly as if they wanted to be upscale (although we didn't go in any, as we don't really need anything at this time). We did go into the yarn shop and I bought up a bunch of skeins of exactly what I'd been looking for. Yada Yada Yarns was tops, and the friendly clerk (who even shared dark chocolate Hershey's kisses with us) was great!
